David Castellani unveils first artist album on Noetic Music, as emerging LA producer and live act John Rojas shares immersive long-player SKIN.

The eight-track work features remixes from MAEDON, Trovarsi & David Castellani and Unfuckable, Castellani’s side project with Brittney Vandal.

Noetic Music is evolving. Once a sole hub for David Castellani’s originals, alongside remixes from Redshape, Matrixxman, Voiski, Etapp Kyle and Truncate, the label collective is expanding and taking broader shape in 2026. Following Castellani’s collaborative EP with Japanese techno legend Ken Ishii this summer, Noetic unveils its first artist album from emerging LA-based producer and live act John Rojas, titled SKIN.

In keeping with Noetic’s multi-layered vision of techno, SKIN moves between the physical and transcendental – visceral, body-led music that reaches beyond the material to explore instinct, vulnerability and the human spirit within the machine.

Rojas conceives of SKIN as a kind of electronic anatomy. Each of its five originals takes its name from a body part – ‘Tongues’, ‘Oblique’, ‘Torso’, ‘Mouth’ and ‘Spleen’ – as he sets using the body as both a creative framework and a way into his own interior world.

The concept emerged instinctively. Beginning the project in summer 2025, Rojas would choose a body part before each studio session and allow the title to dictate what followed. More than a dozen pieces eventually became five, moving between four-to-the-floor hypnosis and fractured broken beats, with spontaneity, mistakes and imperfection integral to their creation.

“Each song in SKIN is not only a reflection of my anxieties, apprehensions and discomforts, but a demonstration of personal connection, enjoyment and growth,”shares Rojas. “This body of work allowed me to have a staring contest with my personal and social insecurities – choosing to look for myself within the electronics instead of seeking validation.”

A producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist with two decades of experience, Rojas comes to solo electronic music from punk and hardcore, having played in bands before establishing industrial punk project MACHINEKIT and Orange County studio Machinehouse Audio. That DNA runs throughout SKIN.

Across the record, ‘Tongues’ is a slinky cut, moving between elegance and force; ‘Oblique’ contorts broken beats around the image of a body in motion; and ‘Torso’ channels something more primal and ritualistic, marked by tribal rhythms. ‘Mouth’is a subterranean cut and behaves like two voices speaking and interrupting one another, before ‘Spleen’ closes the originals in hypnotic techno territory.

Three remixes further expand the SKIN universe. MAEDON – a close associate of the label whose featured in multiple showcases previously – turns in a twisted, brain spangling remix of ‘Spleen’; LA homie Trovarsi links with David Castellani to turn up the pressure on ‘Torso’ and Unfuckable – Castellani’s collaborative project with Brittney Vandal – injects a scintillating vocal line into ‘Mouth’ to give it a whole new dimension.

The album also marks a natural evolution of Rojas and Castellani’s friendship. The pair met through their partners in 2023 and quickly bonded over music and gear, developing an artistic understanding that ultimately brought Rojas to Noetic as the first outside artist to deliver a full original work for the label.

"I’m incredibly excited to welcome John Rojas to Noetic as the first artist beyond myself to release an original body of work on the label. John is not only a close friend, but an exceptional musician, and this eight-track release feels like the perfect introduction to his work on the label. With three outstanding remixes from MAEDON, Unfuckable, Trovarsi, and myself, I couldn’t be happier with how the project came together. It feels like the start of something much bigger, with a lot more still to come.” – David Castellani

For Rojas, SKIN captures the vulnerability of stepping into that space alone.“I’m a band guy. I have only ever known how to play and tour with a group of people, so this was the first time I had to think solely for myself. Much like limbs, I felt disjointed, pulled in different directions. These jarring feelings left me feeling naked and vulnerable. And weirdly enough, that’s what SKIN is about – a sonic collection of raw emotions.

”SKIN is out 9 October on Noetic. Catch John Rojas playing a B2B2B set with David Castellani and Chris Liebing at the Noetic x KEYI event during ADE week on Friday 23 October at This is Happening Gallery.
